Another Mom Update

I know that many of you want to continue to hear about Mom’s progress and look on this site to see updates. So here is the latest one.

Mom went to see her Oncologist yesterday. He is amazed at her progress and where she is; he has told her that she is in remission. She continues to get better all the time and is enjoying getting back into life and being able to do the things she wondered if she would ever be able to do. She’s even been going up to the track and walking a mile and a half several evenings a week!

She will be making a visit to the Urologist to be checked out. They had put some stints in when she had surgery and they will be checking that. I know she would love it if anyone would pray for her about that.

Thank you everyone for your continued prayers and praise to our Lord Jesus Christ who has extended Mom’s life and has really blessed us all through this miraculous touch.

To him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy- – to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore!

Amen.

A Friday Funny

My Friend Jeanette sent this to me and I had never read it before. I made me laugh and I thought I would share it with you today. Have a happy Friday!

Why Did The Chicken Cross The Road…?

DR. PHIL:
The problem we have here is that this chicken won’t realize that he must first deal with the problem on “THIS” side of the road before it goes after the problem on the “OTHER SIDE” of the road. What we need to do is help him realize how stupid he’s acting by not taking on his CURRENT” problems before adding “NEW” problems of roads.

OPRAH:
Well I understand that the chicken is having problems, which is why he wants to cross this road so bad. So to help him get on with his life, I’m going to give this chicken a car and a driver …so that he can just drive across the road and realize his dream of becoming superchicken.

GEORGE W. BUSH:
We don’t really care why the chicken crossed the road. We just want to know if the chicken is on our side of the road, or not. The chicken is either against us, or for us. There is no middle ground here…

DONALD RUMSFELD:

Now to the left of the screen, you can clearly see the satellite image of the chicken crossing the road.

BILL CLINTON:
I did not cross the road with THAT chicken. What is your definition of chicken?

AL GORE:
I invented the chicken!

JOHN KERRY:
Although I voted to let the chicken cross the road, I am now against it! It was the wrong
road to cross, and I was misled about the chicken’s intentions. I am for it now, and will remain against it.

ANDERSON COOPER/CNN:

We have reason to believe there is a chicken, but we have not yet been allowed to have access to the other side of the road.

JUDGE JUDY:
That chicken crossed the road because he’s GUILTY! You can see it in his eyes and the way he walks.

PAT BUCHANAN:
To steal the job of a decent, hardworking American.

MARTHA STEWART:
No one called me to warn me which way that chicken was going. I had a standing order at the Farmer’s Market to sell my eggs when the price dropped to a certain level.

DR SEUSS:
Did the chicken cross the road?
Did he cross it with a toad?
Yes, the chicken crossed the road,
but why it crossed I’ve not been told.

ERNEST HEMINGWAY:
To die in the rain. Alone.

BARBARA WALTERS:
Isn’t that interesting? In a few moments, we will be listening to the chicken tell, for the first
time, the heart warming story of how it experienced a serious case of molting, and went on to accomplish its life long dream of crossing the road.

JOHN LENNON:
Imagine all the chickens in the world crossing roads together – in peace.

ARISTOTLE:
It is the nature of chickens to cross the road.

BILL GATES:
I have just released eChicken2006,which will not only cross roads, but will lay eggs, file your important documents, and balance your check book. Internet explorer is an integral
part of eChicken. The Platform is much more stable and will never cra…#@&&^( C \….. reboot.

ALBERT EINSTEIN:

Did the chicken really cross the road, or did the road move beneath the chicken?

COLONEL SANDERS:
Did I miss one?

“Hey, Jaden. . .see that big bubble up there?”

“Whenever anyone flushes it all goes up the pipes into that thing. Yup, there’s poop and toilet paper and little bits of potato chips up there.”

In My Opinion. . .

book1You will rarely find me giving a book review on Casting Crumbs because I find reading one of those scarce pleasures that I seldom have time to do these days. However, while en route to Vegas I found myself with some heavy-duty time wasting on my hands and so I indulged in a book. I have found Don’t Make Me Count to Three to be a valuable book that is changing the course of my relationship, discipline and training of my three lovely little offspring and so I thought I would share it with you.

I first learned of Don’t Make Me Count to Three through my friend Merri. She recommended it on her website and when I saw that it was a sequel to Ted Tripp’s Shepherding Your Child’s Heart, I knew it was a read for me.

Tripp’s book basically sets the stage of understanding that the best form of discipline is to understand the heart of your child and to discipline according to what is going on in their heart and not just according to their behavior. It truly takes some change in thought to look at discipline in this manner and it is one thing that I have tried to do since reading his book. By the way, I would highly recommend his book also.

Don’t Make Me Count to Three takes Tripp’s book a step further to outline a hands-on way to do this. The author, Ginger Plowman, shares some great ways to understand the inner-workings of your child’s heart and then teaching your child to understand their own heart and change their behavior. The book is a quick-read; I think she understands a busy Mommy’s life and accounts for that by keeping her book brief in length.

I took Ginger’s advice and for the last few week’s have worked on training some areas with the kids where I had been lacking before. I found that many times I discipline the kids but don’t take it further to explain and teach them the proper behavior they should have had. This does take some additional time and effort on my part but has been really successful and I am pleased with what I have seen so far.

I give Don’t Make Me Count to Three a two-thumbs up. Give it a read, I think you will find it very helpful.

Moments to Cherish

Today is a big day! School has started once again and I shed a small happy tear as my firstborn son walked the path up to school for 1st grade. I’m glad that school has started again but then I already miss him. These moments of our life make us step outside ourselves and look at the whole picture. Our kids are growing up into their own little personalities. We want them to change and grow but then when we stop and see how quickly it happens it surprises us.

******************************************

We had a wonderful visit from Tom’s Dad last weekend. He lives out of town and we only see him a couple times a year. He usually comes up for the family reunion every August and so we get to visit with him then. Joe and Annie came over to our home Saturday morning bearing many gifts for the kids. They had toys and a big box of new clothes. The new kids clothes actually had my name on them, but the kids had them out of the box and started trying them on before I could look at them. They were in heaven with their new duds!

Later that evening we went to Kenny and Barbs for a fish fry. We had the best time! Thanks everyone for all the gifts and for the wonderful family time together. We really enjoyed it.

******************************************

This week I have tried to let Julian enjoy some last minute favorite things before school started. So Monday he spent the night with my parents and then spent the entire day fishing! Fishing has become Julian’s favorite thing to do and he has become quite the pro at it. He can change his bobbers and lures, catch minnows and bait them on his hook, he can unhook a fish and throw it back like any well-seasoned fisherman.

One thing that we have done as a family the last few summers is to spend time at the school track. We go in the evenings when it has cooled down and walk and play with the kids; it’s a great place to take our kites and hover crafts too. The kids absolutely love it and beg to go. They can run and play and I’m sure it seems like massive acres of playground to them.

track1

Julian has always donned his currently favorite superhero gettup to wear to the track. It’s a tradition. He flies around the track on his bigwheel or bike with cape a’flyin’. Just recently Jaden has decided that he loves superheroes too and it’s been great to see the boys have something in common now. They have been flying over every piece of furniture and dealing with villains non-stop for the past couple weeks.

Jaden, I mean, Superman flying across the bleachers.

track2
Evely discovered puddling. She would stand in the middle of the puddle. Stretch her arms up as high as she could and then splash them into the puddle. Then she would exclaim “WET!”.

************************************

The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities.

For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.

As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him; for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust. As for man, his days are like grass, he flourishes like a flower of the field; the wind blows over it and it is gone, and its place remembers it no more.

But from everlasting to everlasting the Lord’s love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness with their children’s children– from Psalm 103

Yesterday we spent a very enjoyable evening with the family celebrating my Mother-In-Law’s Birthday!

bday1
Happy Birthday, Rita!!

We met at an Italian Restaurant called Cinzetti’s. Tom and I had never been there before and were pleasantly astounded at the wonderful Italian fare. If you have never eaten there – you MUST try it! It is set up like a market place with many buffets to choose from.

bday3

bday4

They have everything from pizza, spaghetti and lasagna to pollo penne with gargonzola, fried cheese, zucchini, eggplant, calimari and much more. The salads were awesome and the bruschetta. . .mmmmmm delicioso!!

bday5

One of the favorite parts were the desserts! They had hand-dipped ice cream in several flavors, tiramisu, these wonderful raspberry thingies and CREPES! I had never tried a crepe before, so I indulged in a strawberry, banana and cream cheese one. It was pretty good.

bday2
Here’s the room that we all crowded into to enjoy our vittles. Can you find Elizabeth?

Thanks everyone for a fun family night together! Blessings to you, Rita, may your year ahead be a wonderful one!

Be Careful What you Wish for. . .

For the last several months Julian has been asking for a cat. Tom and I have talked all along that we could see a dog in the future for us. Kids just can’t grow up without an animal to love, but we wanted to wait until Evely and Jaden were a little older. However, Julian kept talking about wanting a cat and had told Tom the other day that he was ready for a kitten and he wanted it to be all black.

Lo and behold, a few days after that conversation this little tiny malnourished kitten shows up under Tom’s truck. It ran away and the next day it was in our backyard. I lured the kitten up to the house with my baby kitty meows. (Perfected from days of “kitty whispering” on the farm as a kid. I could tame any wild kitten within a day if you gave me the time.) So within a matter of 3 days Julian was holding and loving “Maxy”. She is now our kitten. She is an “outside” cat – yeah right. You can see by all the pictures she makes it into the house.

maxy1

maxy2

Maxy is one of those kittens that the kids do anything to and she just lays there loving it. Evely carries her around by the head and Jaden just throws her over his shoulder and takes off. I think she is just appreciative of being saved from certain death if she had been left in the wild much longer.

maxy3

maxy4
She is now eating good and starting to fill out. She acts more playful and kitten-like now.

maxy5
Julian always draws a picture after something meaningful happens in his life. Here’s his drawing of him and Maxy.

OH! And did you happen to notice what color this thing is? Hmmmm. . .just like she was ordered!

The Wedding

Right after returning from Vegas, we packed up the van and headed to Moberly for Tom’s niece’s wedding. I had the opportunity to take the wedding photos – something that has had me a little stressed out over the past weeks. (You know your nervous when you start dreaming about it every night!) Jaden was also the adorable Ring Bearer (Ring Bear as Julian would say).

wed4
This is Christi, she looked beautiful!!

No one was sure that Jaden would actually walk down the aisle, but I had faith in him . . .and a big bag of bribe candy of course! We gave the bag of candy to Grandma and told him to walk down and get it. It worked!! He did great. He walked slowly behind the flower bear (Julian’s name for her) and watched as the petals would float to the floor.

**A FUNNY STORY**
The other day MaryKay and Jonathan came over to let us use the bowtie. The boys had just come in from slip-n-sliding Shoemaker style (you know, naked!) and Jaden was running around in the buff. Julian got the bowtie and put it on Jaden and we would see Jaden run past the kitchen in nothing but the bowtie, arms outstretched yelling “SUPERMAN!” It was sight to behold – a true up and coming Chippendales! Too bad the camera wasn’t in arms reach. :(
*******************************************
Anyway, Congratulations Shawn and Christi! We pray that you will have much success in your new life together.
