Saturday was the big day for Evely. She turned 2!! I can’t believe that she is already 2. You just turn around that little bundle you are bringing home from the hospital is turning into a kid. How does that happen so quickly!

We had a wonderful family birthday at our house. Both sides of the family came over for dinner and cake. Evely had a fun time opening her gifts. She studied each one and relished opening them. She is starting to get into this gift thing! She received lots of Dora the Explorer stuff and some adorable clothes.

Here are some of the birthday pics.

Evely immediately turned very shy when everyone started singing to her. She rubbed her eyes because she didn’t want everyone watching her. Finally she blew her candles out and was proud she did it!

MMMMM. . .cake!

Later in the evening as everyone was saying “good-bye” this little thing was caught up on the table sampling some more cake!

A Funny for your Cold Day

We have been holed up in our house now since last Friday. All my kids have had the flu and are finally on the upswing! Good thing. I am glad that school has been out so that Julian didn’t miss a lot of class work. I am feeling the need to get back to normal.

So on this cold January day I present to you a funny picture. Every time I look at it, it just cracks me up! Last August the boys had gone swimming at my parents house. After getting out the pool, the boys were upstairs getting dressed. We heard some laughter and down came Jaden wearing nothing but my Mom’s wig!!

The Best way to Share a Meal . . .

Is with a friend!!

Tom and I have always playfully disagreed about what a mealtime is really about. Many times I am just starting my plate of food only to look over and see Tom sitting there completely finished and his plate scraped clean. I am always amazed and when I comment on it the response is always the same.

“The purpose of eating, is to eat, not to socialize. You are so busy talking that your food gets cold. When I sit down to eat – I eat! When I’m done eating then I will talk.”

It’s become a joke around here. I guess it’s true. I think it is a difference between men and women. Men really are in the conquering mode and we are in the nurturing one. They sit down to conquer that big bad plate of food and we women see it as an opportunity to bond and catch up on life.

For Tom’s sake I must say that this is not always the norm with him. In fact, I think over the years he has started talking more during mealtimes. If we go on a date. . .well, he’s a wonderful date! I think it’s because that’s the “purpose” of that meal – to talk.

So this morning I had to laugh when I saw that my baby girl decided to take her breakfast to another level in the kitchen. She needed some company and found a friend to share it with. Just another tally mark for my theory!!

So how is it in your family?? Do you men out there like to talk a lot at the typical dinnertime meal at home? Or do you mainly eat? I’m curious.
