Time for the Traditions to BEGIN!!!

I think I have been ready for Christmas season to begin since Halloween! It has arrived and I’m getting into the spirit. I have over half my shopping done and I’m hoping to finish early so that I can just enjoy the festivities, the cookie making, goody baking, Christmas movie watching that we all love to do each year.

Last Monday we started our season by getting out the tree. The last few years I have started a tradition of making a Tea Ring to get the night started as we decorate the tree.

Yes, it’s missing a big bite because of my hunny!

It’s always a big deal to get out the ladder and haul everything out of the attic.

This year all the kids crawled up in the attic.

I remember this as a child too. My Dad would head out to the very cold garage and set up the step ladder and begin to pull out the magical boxes that held our Christmas memories and finery. It was always such a great night. I loved to get under the tree with Mike after it was decorated and stare up into the tree for hours – or so it seemed.

Last year at the end of the season we purchased a new tree. So the kids had as much fun with the Pirate Ship, um. . I mean the box as they did putting up the decorations.

One of the traditions that I happily pulled out of the boxes was my GREEN BOW!! I wear this thing all season long and I love it. I always get such a kick out of the responses I get from people. It’s such an elegant looking bow that I can tell some people aren’t sure if it’s a joke or not.

Isn’t it GREAT!!??

I look forward to sharing some of our festivities along this silvery magical road to Christmas and to celebrate the birth of our Savior, Jesus with you.

God Bless all of you and I hope you enjoy your families and the blessings that we have this season.

I’m Caught and I’m Thankful

Every year there seems to be certain passages from the Bible that become sort of a “theme” for my year. When I really take the time to listen the Lord speaks so clearly and it seems that I will come back to these words of comfort and renewal again and again. This year there has been one particular passage that I continually reread and every time it makes me thankful. It brings a joy and peace knowing that HE loves me so.

During this Thanksgiving time I thought I would share it. These words raise thankfulness in my heart. I’m so grateful to be loved this way by the God of the universe. He loves you this way too…enough to catch you.

Boardgame Blues

I am sure that the makers of board games sit around their board room tables and relish the fact that millions of homes will turn off their televisions, put down the video games and actually communicate over their product. They excitedly dream of the revenues piling in while promoting family time among the general public.

Needless to say, whenever those loved boardgames are brought out of the closet and placed upon my carpet to begin family frivolity and memory making. . .all hell breaks loose. The games are never played as they should be – or rarely. The pieces and cards are flung and ricocheted all over the house nevermore to be found until the furniture is moved. It is abnormal if a fight doesn’t break out! Yes, I thank the board game makers every time this happens.

Tonight was another night of family unity as we dusted off the Candy Land game for an evening of delight and delicacy as we looked at the lovely board graced with deliciousness. What could be better!

I left the room to pop a bowl of popcorn and upon my return I discovered the happy children of my home had turned Candy Land into WWF right there on the floor of the living room. Each of them was contorting their bodies trying to get as many of the cards under their body as possible. Evely seemed to be winning until Jaden sat up and snatched a handful of her cards right out from under her. Then the war of words ensued. Each precious child edging closer and closer to the other, noses and lips formed into snarls. Eyes flashed with scorn and hatred at the other. It was a sight to behold.

Jaden: “Evely, get off of me!”

Evely: “I’m not on you. You took my cards!”

Jaden: “No, I didn’t!”

Evely: “Give them back!”

Jaden: “NO!” Then he purses up his lips and begins to BLOW on her head as hard as he can. The irritation hit it’s peak and Evely screams at him in the most hateful voice she can muster. . .

Evely: “I’m Not A CAKE!!”

Julian and I just CRACKED UP!!!

Only from a two-year old brain. . .

Halloween Moments

Well, here it is Monday morning – weekend recovery as my friend Jules and I fondly refer to it. I decided to take a small reprieve from the loads of laundry to download my pictures from Halloween and the weekend.

We had quite the busy weekend here. I was so blessed to take off for a Scrapbook Retreat up North on Friday night. We stayed up till about 3:00 a.m. did a little sleeping and then right back to it the next morning. I got home about 5:30 Saturday just in time to put the house in a little order and prepare for a fun crew for a bonfire and weenie roast. We had 10 kids here under the age of 9. They had a ball – I think. I know that the adults had fun!

Halloween seemed much easier this year. All three of the kiddos really got into dressing up. No crying and tearing off the costumes. No Grandparents had to call and try to talk them into getting dressed up! Everyone was ready to head out for an evening of gathering and loading up on sugar!

I took the kids to McD’s for supper. Grandma and Grandpa met us there to share in the tasty “kid cuisine”. Then on to Uncle Kenny and Aunt Barb’s, then my parents and later did a little Trick-Or-Treating here in town. It was a busy and enjoyable evening!

Here are a few pics. I know you are dying to see what the kids looked like in their costumes.

Julian was so fun! He wanted to do all these Spiderman poses for the camera. He was really in his element. By the way, Kenny and Barb, this costume is what your money was spent on by Julian. He already had a spiderman costume and I told him I wasn’t buying another one. Especially one that cost $20. He had to have the black Spidey outfit and the one that is “buff”, so he used his gift money to buy it. I think he has worn it every day! (Yes, another example of how cheap I am – mean Mommy!)

hallow4
Evely loved being a lion! She would stop and smile for the camera.

Here’s Jaden on the way home from trick-or-treating! Yup, the sugar high wore off and he bottomed out.
