This Summer I have completely enjoyed my little girl. She has sprung into a little blossom, full of energy and spunk. I have cracked up at her antics and thoughts on life and her little Evely-ism’s are so funny. Here are a few things she has said just recently…

“Hey, you’re gonna get soaped and wet!” = soaking wet

“Momma, I got itchies. I got sugar bites.” = chigger bites

“Hold on, boys, I’m gonna get my soup on.” = swimming suit

“I want to see the magnet flying gas.” = magnifying glass

I’ve noticed for a long time that Evely doesn’t really play with toys. She mostly wants to play with the cat. She will get it, hole up with it in her bedroom for as long as the cat will stand it. Now that Summer has hit she is in “pet” heaven and she daily argues with the boys over whether or not a roly-poly is a pet.

Yesterday she had this yellow striped bug that she carried around for about 2 hours. She repeatedly asked me if I wanted to hold it or pet it. She finally came to me and said “Mom, this bug is just beeeeuuuuuutiful!” I love that she enjoys God’s smallest little creatures. Even with two boys, I have never been asked to hold so many frogs, pet so many bugs or be quiet so I don’t scare away the butterflies.

Here she is in her “soup” playing with a bug. She now has a Dora soup that she adores too!

There must be something about watching your last baby emerge from chubbiness and toddling into becoming a full-blown “kid” with opinions and preferences that captures your attention in a new way. Maybe I’m trying to hang onto moments that are slipping through my fingers way too quickly. I find with this last one that I get on to my older ones for trying to teach her how to say things correctly. I fear that when she masters all the words and her thoughts about life are no longer innocent and silly, those baby moments will be gone forever. I love moving on, but sometimes the lingering sweetness of the childlike amazement of life is refreshing when responsibility and grown-up expectations lie so heavy on your shoulders.

Visiting the Past

One thing that Tom and I did this Summer was attend his 20 Year High School Reunion. Wow, that was jsome great people watching! I only knew a couple of people and no one very well so I sat and stood and perused all the chatty people, looks of surprises, open mouths, and name-tag glancing around me. It was quite an interesting evening.

Here we are at Mom’s. We dropped off the kids for the night and then took off for the Downtown Marriott where the event would take place. It was quite stressful trying to figure out what to wear. It was tagged a “semi-formal” affair and so what does a person wear? We settled on black and white outfits and I about laughed when we walked in and almost everyone was in black and white.

They had a good turnout; these are most of them in the picture. I would say there was about 250 people there including spouses.

Here are some of Tom’s really good friends from high school.

The really fun part of the evening was watching Tom interact with all of his old friends. He was obviously well-liked by all and everyone seemed to know him right away. Many people came up to me to tell me how much they loved Tom and how he hasn’t changed a bit. It was nice to see him with all his past friends.

The weird thing about the whole evening was that when I walked into the place, I just couldn’t get over that I was at this huge “middle-aged” party. I kept thinking how old everyone looked but then I realized that I am as old as they are! It still feels weird when I think back on it.

I remember one time my Mom said that she was asked the question “What is one thing you never thought you would get to do”. She said “Grow Old!” I can truly understand that. I know that 38 is not OLD, but it is definitely not young anymore. I looked at our crows feet in our picture and I think that life is certainly flying by. Each day is precious; one to be thankful for and taken note of.

Mom had some great news this past week. She had her 4th treatment of chemo on Tuesday. She got her tumor marker count from the third treatment this week and the count is NORMAL. It’s below thirty. It’s a high “normal” but it is normal! Praise the Lord!

She is very excited. She is tolerating the side effects and so far no hair loss. Yeah!

Thanks, again, everyone for all the continued prayers and encouragement.

By the way….
I know I am doing a terrible job with my blog. I have so many pictures and posts to get to. I will try to get some things posted this week. It’s just been so busy….I know, what could a stay-at-home Mom do all day! Well, let me tell ya……try it. :)

Summer Critters

Summer has arrived and I can’t seem to get to my computer to blog these days. So Sorry!

Here’s a couple of cute pictures of a red slider turtle that my Dad found around his pond. He brought it to the kids and we kept it for a couple of days before sending him back to his own habitat. He really brought a lot of enjoyment while we had him.

I love how kids find all the little critters outside and adopt them and quickly name them. This little guy was named “Toony”.

We now have a new beautiful red Betta fish on our counter in our kitchen and he has been named “Rick” – yeah, I know….??

Isn’t he CUTE!

I remember bringing home baby bunnies, snakes and frogs during the summer as a kid. What did you bring home?
