Cherry Pickin’

My Dad is quite the Patriot and I think that when they bought their house one of the top selling points was the flag pole. He has proudly flown Old Glory as long as he has a flag to fly. Awhile back the rope broke and came out of the pulley and, sadly, no more flag. It wasn’t as easy as just running another rope up there…this pole is probably a good 40 feet up in the air!

So for his birthday Mom and I did some brainstorming on what to do. We were able to rent a cherry picker for a few hours to restring the rope.

The morning we were to get the picker Dad called bright and early. He was so excited you would have thought it was Christmas morning. He and Tom went to town and picked it up and brought it back to the house. It was pretty exciting to see the picker set up and watch my brave hubby figure out how to run the contraption.

Not a lot makes Tom shake in his boots. He loves the biggest roller coasters he can get on, but the cherry picker gave him a run for his money.

I was really proud of him for overcoming his fear of falling off a small shaky platform to make it possible for Dad to fly his flag.

There was no dilly-dallying getting the rope re-strung!

Dad stated he couldn’t have thought of a BETTER birthday gift than this one.
